Common use of the boat trailer is relatively new in the thousand's of years of boating history.
Generally speaking, the only people who owned private boats were those that lived on lakes or rivers.
The advances of WWII saw aluminium manufactured in commercially available sheet form and this led to an explosion in small private dinghy ownership.
The Boat Trailer was commercially born and became a necessity to allow owners to transport their boats.
The original boat trailers had Skids and boats were winched on to the trailer.
The commercial development of Fibre glass in the 1950s and 60s and improvements in injection moulding saw another stage of evolution where the Multi Roller Boat Trailer was born.
Roller Trailers were seen as the ultimate, but they came with a high price and every roller needs a bracket and anybody that has owned a roller trailer knows the risk of scraping their boat's hull on a roller bracket when things go wrong.
The evolution has almost turned a full circle to the point it would be near impossible to buy a Multi Roller Trailer in most countries today.
Today, with modern design, advancement in plastics, Spitfire offer the Bunk Trailer using HDPE bunks and HDPE cross member slides.
This High-density polyethylene - HDPE is known for its high strength-to-density ratio, is extremely slippery and offers the perfect cradle for a boat... be it fibre glass, wood or aluminium.
The bunk design allows you to drive your boat on and eliminates all risk of damage to your hull from striking roller brackets.
HDPE bunks, unlike carpet bunks, will not cause osmosis to your hull.
Also, HDPE, unlike rigid aluminium bunks, will gently form to your hull shape eliminating hard pressure points.
